Tips From the Chef: Advice from the Battlefield
Understanding the secrets of cooking instead of fighting cooking is beneficial for all involved. Using the simple tips and methods we provide may make the difference from doing battle in the kitchen and truly enjoying yourself and provided wonderful meals for your family.
Plan Your Meal Cooking
Plan your meal cooking the way you plan your "soccer mom" driving.
Assign a time to prep and cook each component of the meal. Start with
the longest prep/cooking item, begin that and stage each of the other
components according to cooking time to have everything finish at the
same time. This the hardest task to learn but once you master this you
will find your cooking will become immensely easier.
Prepare
Have all your ingredients out and ready as well as your cooking pots,
pans and utensils for each meal.
Large Party? Choose Wisely
When planning a large gathering or party choose a menu that can be
made in advance and will require little of your time during the party.
You should be able to enjoy your own party.
Want to please your kids and keep them home for dinner?
Allow each of them to pick a meal they really like. Make this often and make sure you tell them you are making it specifically for them.
Allow them to bring their friends to dinner. Instead of overly sweet treats and video games, try to make your house the place kids want to hang out because of the good food and friendliness. You will be amazed at how fast kids catch on and how quickly dinnertime becomes something that is looked forward to.
